Required Written Reports for Intended Parents and Donors

Most Canadian fertility clinics require a written report for all third-party reproduction cycles including intended parents and their donors and/or surrogates (if known to them). We conduct these sessions separately with intended parent(s) and their known donor/surrogates and then follow up with written reports. We send reports directly to the clinic so treatment processes are not delayed.

During these sessions, we work with the intended parents preparing them to move forward with donors and/surrogates. The counselling session addresses the various psychosocial issues involved with third party reproduction including the often mixed emotions of moving towards a donor/surrogate, supporting them with donor selection issues as well as helping them cultivate appropriate language to assist with disclosure.

When donors/surrogates are known to intended parents, we counsel the donor/surrogates as well (and their partners if they have) to discuss the emotional, physical, and logistical aspects of their journey ahead. Our focus in these sessions is to help donor/surrogates set up realistic expectations around the appropriate and positive relations with intended parents both during and after the donation/surrogacy is complete.

Naturally, not all our clients needing required reports are challenged by their need to use donor/surrogates. Clients from the LGBTQIA+ community are often emotionally prepared for this necessary step in building their families. In these sessions we focus on issues of donor selection, donor language, perceived implications of genetic inequality between partners, and extended family dynamics.
